A large detached red brick Edwardian house on a residential West London street. The brief was for a complete refurbishment and a rear extension including redesign of the garden.
The form of the extension is a double height timber clad box with slits to allow light and a large glazed facade to connect the garden. that the house sits on a sloping site presented some difficult spatial and structural solutions, particularly to allow the slits to extend from wall to roof uninterrupted. Internally, the original features have been retained and the layout rearranged to make the new dwelling work as a family home. The stepped terraces of the garden provide safe and interesting spaces without large drops for children to play.
