This Grade II listed Georgian house with an existing industrial shed to the rear previously housed a large plumbing firm and the brief was to provide a home for a family and a racing car.
The existing rear shed was partly rebuilt and new landscaped courtyard inserted as a counterpoint between the Georgian street building and the inhabited shed to the rear. An additional mezzanine linked front to back via the master suite and created an additional play area.
The clients requirements to include a car in the living space demands an open plan at ground level which is lit by the glazed courtyard. The result is an interesting house with a formal front appearance while the interior is introspective.
