Location: Westport, Co.Mayo
Client: Private
Status: Planning
This is a site in the West coast of Ireland. It stands at a dramatic point between a lake to the East and towards Clew Bay to the West, Croagh Patrick to the South and distant mountains to the North. The proposal is inspired by childhood memories of farm buildings in Mayo. This simple pitched roof building on a rural site evokes a sense of place through light and form. The arrangement forms an enclosure within a natural landscape and the orientation takes in the four views.
The materials are rudimentary and limited and the house sits quietly and unnoticed through its familiar form and subtle setting. The project will be in planning this summer.
