Mekân occupies a large double fronted shop unit on a Victorian parade in South East London. The brief was to make a connection with the busy street and take advantage of the expansive street elevation.
The restaurant is laid out over two levels with a bar and function room at lower level and the restaurant & kitchen at ground floor level. The interior was stripped back to its bare shell and the existing brickwork and concrete beams sandblasted. A series of framed screens above the banquet seating was used to break up the ground floor dining area in order to create a more intimate dining spaces while uniting the space conceptually.
